Cadmium Against Slate
A horizon is cut from cadmium and raw umber, with the paint laid thick enough to generate its own light against a cold grey plane. The glow seems to rise from the surface rather than from any sky, which flattens depth and pushes the figure forward. The tension lies in the gap between warm pigment and empty ground, holding the viewer at a threshold that never resolves.
