Painted in transparent watercolor, the composition relies on the unpainted paper reserve to carry its highlights, so the pale passages glow from the support itself rather than from added white. Pigment pools and bleeds into the wet margins, where cold violet and green recede and a single dense red accent pulls the eye toward the forms. The beasts hold their ground at the edge of the figures, and the unresolved distance between them sustains the work's psychological tension.
