A face in three-quarter profile, eyes closed, gold running from beneath the lashes in two thick lines down the cheek. Around the throat, not the brow, a crown of thorns, gilded at the tips. The background is black leather. I moved the crown down deliberately. On the head it is a picture everyone has already seen and stopped looking at. Around the neck it becomes a question about who put it there and whether it comes off, and the gold tears stop being a symbol and start being a weight. A. Rook
